Monogram by Arctic — Introduction to LNS Generative Artwork

Artist Introduction

Arctic is a group of generative artists consisting of Zhi Bei You (Cc, Jin Cicheng) and Cosmic Boat (Van, Wang Qi), who focus on using mathematical and computer algorithms to simulate, explore, and develop new contemporary brush systems, as well as trajectory and structural algorithms to compose humanistic generative artworks. On November 22, they released their first generative art project based on p5.js: Hillhouse on Tezos generative art platform Fxhash.

Cicheng Jin, a generative artist, has an MA in Creative Entrepreneurship from the University of Bristol and is the founder of the Arctic Circle community. Originally a collector of Epigraphy steles and stickers, he has since transformed into a generative art collector and artist. He has experience in traditional Chinese calligraphy, an appreciation of the Epigraphy field, and development experience in quantitative investment and computer fields.

Wang Qi is a generative artist. He is a student of digital media technology at Jiangnan University.

Now he wants to learn everything and hopes to be able to do everything in the future and be qualified to fight hard with all the masters.

Natural noise as a mountain, overlapping shade into a house, Hillhouse starts from the most straightforward principle and goes to haze. The Berlin noise changes to fit the trend of the hill, and the gap in the middle of the hill makes it hazy; the irregular polygon stacking creates a halo effect, adding an oriental flavor to the roof.

Monogram

Monogram was an important form of authorization and encryption in many ancient civilizations, such as Cartouche, which represented the name of the pharaoh in ancient Egyptian civilization, Signum, which symbolized personal identity in ancient Roman civilization, and Huaya, an ancient Chinese form of personal signature. However, with the development of the times, such encryption methods of mapping personal identity have gradually shifted from tangible signatures and seals to de-visualized forms such as hashing in cryptography and its derivative blockchain domain names.

Admittedly, the shift to string mapping has greatly reduced the complexity of declaring people’s personal identities and ensured authenticity when mapping. However, individuality is gradually lost in this abstraction process. First, the information about personal traits that can be expressed in strings is very limited, while the information load of graphics is far greater. Second, in terms of people’s ability to remember, humans remember words much less than they remember graphics.

Therefore, I can’t help wondering: why can’t we map both? And if so, what form could be the vehicle for visualizing such a mapping?

Generative art is one of the best solutions. The randomness, diversity, and artistry of generative art, combined with blockchain domain names, allows the mapped graphics to generate aesthetically meaningful and iconic images in perpetuity and without repetition. Inspired by this, I created the project “Monogram”. In “Monogram”, the system will use a random movement of my original brush to pay homage and reminisce to the Monogram used in ancient times for signatures, evoking the original desire for individual expression in people.

The LNS, as a Web3 digital identity and its bundled generative artwork “Mongram”, also becomes a premium digital asset that domain holders can sell or lease for income.

Overall, LNS will simplify the complexities of wallet addresses and other data identifiers in the Lambda ecosystem, while offering some interesting commercial possibilities, thus becoming one of the key components for people to build their brand and identity on the Lambda network.
