Kukuti Introduction

I’m 33 years old, Brazilian, a teacher, artist, and Web3 enthusiast. I have a long-standing interest in art and have been drawing since childhood. Despite this passion, I followed a different path in life and became a chemist, earning a Ph.D. and working as a teacher in the field. However, my involvement in the Web3 universe and digital art has reignited my passion for creating. Since 2020, I have started several projects on the Tezos blockchain which bring together my background and my love of art. Today, I put more effort into generative and AI art, investing part of my free time in studying algorithms, and new technologies, working on new projects, and collecting NFTs. In addition, I have participated in collaborations with other artists and continue to experiment with different styles and expressions.

“Herbarium” (or better, 本草纲目) is an exquisite generative art project that delicately merges the ancient wisdom of Chinese Herbology with the power of modern algorithms, resulting in an enchanting display of organic compositions. The artist, deeply fascinated by the richness and intricacies of Oriental culture, has embarked on a journey to study and comprehend the complexities of Chinese Herbal Medicine. Through this exploration, he have discovered a new way to honor the heritage of this ancient practice by integrating it into his generative art.

The creative algorithm at the heart of “本草纲目” is called ‘k-means clustering’, which is employed to sample colors from various examples of the Fundamental Herbs List. By analyzing each pixel from these herbs, the algorithm generates unique palettes each single time. This innovative approach pays homage to the significance of color in Oriental culture and embraces the aesthetics of balance and serenity that are deeply rooted in Chinese art and philosophy.

“本草纲目” is not only an generative collection, but also a testament to the artist’s (as a Chemist and Professor) profound respect and admiration for the culture and knowledge of the East. As a result, “本草纲目” stands as a prime example of how generative art can be used to celebrate and elevate the essence of a culture, bridging the gap between tradition and technology in a visually mesmerizing way.

Exhibitions and well-known cooperation cases: Rings

Rings consists of the aesthetic result of the radial accumulation of simple shapes (circles, squares and triangles) acting as small particles that follow polar functions to form concentric patterns that are not always so symmetrical.

While the backgrounds are filled with more sober colors, the front palettes are the result of the trichromatic combination inspired by Brazilian biomes, in homage to our rich geographic diversity. The trail left by these particles allows the formation of a type of “brush texture” on the canvas, while shadows and white dots give the necessary finish, helping with depth perception.
