The blue-green Shan Shui style is a form of traditional Chinese landscape painting that often features the colors blue and green in depictions of natural scenes such as mountains, rivers, and forests.
One notable characteristic of the work is the way it blends the eternal and the modern. This is achieved through the use of traditional imagery and techniques, such as the Shan Shui style, combined with modern design elements and AI technologies. The resulting visual language merges the past and present.
Another key feature of the work is the combination of static archivism and the vitality of generative art. Collage techniques allow the conceptual blending and recontextualization of existing images and materials. This creates a dynamic journey, ever-changing visual landscape that is both rooted in tradition and constantly evolving.
In an era of rapid urbanization and environmental degradation, the focus on nature in Shan Shui painting can be seen as a way of reconnecting with the natural world and promoting environmental awareness. The style itself has had a significant impact on contemporary graphic design, inspiring artists to explore new ways of mixing tradition and modernity, stillness and movement, static and dynamic.
Exhibitions and well-known cooperation cases: Sands of Time
We’ve been recently inspired to do this work while being on vacation, in one the most vibrant cities in the world, in the hot pot and intermixture of cultures, terrains and soundscapes. Borrowing the metaphors of sand, from Negarestani’s “Cyclonopedia”, and of time from “Chronosis”, these living substances, we wanted to represent some of the vibes, that have been implanted into our gritty enduring nomadic existence.
